Prescription Drugs Increase Risk of Violence

I have never ever liked the fact that so many doctors are eager to put kid on prescription drugs...but then I am floored that so many parents allow it

Unless they have some kind of health issue already -- a real one that needs meds-- no kid should be given these kind of meds since their brains are still developing


Oh, I did not know that about Ritalin eating holes in the heart....that is horrible
Yet they allow it to stay on the market






Sad but true...even doctors can't be trusted since most get some kind of kickback for pushing certain drugs


My husband's first doctor was a pill pusher (retired)
Now his new doctor is the opposite, thank goodness


But I won't get started on that
Or the so-called research results that have been manipulated for the greater of Big Pharma

 

 

Speaking from personnal experience, both my boys (Which lack concentration/attention (a hellova lot) but are not hyperactive) take some meds for their troubles with concentration, (not ritalin, nor concerta). I didn'ty want to hear of it when we originaly met the specialists and pediatricican.

Their doc explained to me what it was for and all the yaddi yadda.... I replied that I disagreed to have my kids in a vegetable state just so the teachers can have it a little easier...

Her answer was simply amazing. She said: If you notice your kid acting differently in ANY way at all, stop using it immediately and call me. Veggy state is indeed one major possible side effect but it also indicates that it is the wrong med and/or dosage. same goes for most other side effects.

With my oldest boy, the very first one we tried, worked right from the beginning (NO side effects at all) and we noticed a huge improvement at school. He went from a 20-30% average to 85-90% within 6 months and passed his school year with honnors while everyone thought (Not us) that he would have to start the year over.

our second son, when he first tried his, he cried ALL DAY! he had friends and family over for his birthday and he locked himself in his room to pout(that is not him). He really got me worried. I phoned the doctor immediately (pers cell phone) and she told me to stop administering the meds NOW and to see her the next morning at her clininc (On a Sunday!).

She prescribed a much smaller dose and we tried that...surely enough, same result as his older brother.

THis Doctor is really unique as she sais herself that although she agrees that some kids need those as it is the case for mine, way too many are prescribed these meds without needing them. and it could be really bad for them, as any med could be when you dont need them. Her goal is to bring the dose down as they progress to eventually get them completely off these.

Like she said, the hormones(for lack of better word) that are a lacking in the brain to maintain an attention span for more than 30 seconds is forced to generate (sorta, forgive I am not good with medical terms) and eventually, the body will be able to create it itself thus, will no longer need the "suppliment".

Now I know that some of these meds are really strong and really bad. Because they are often not used properly and often not monitored right.

We are fortunate to have a Doctor that is not just trying to push the meds. I have heard her talk to a lady that walked into her clinic to request ritalin just because her kid was hyper. She told her that she will not just prescribe meds for no reason. She needed to take proper actions and meet the right people (specialists) and IF ther kid really needed it, then they would give her an appointment.

The process was long and stressful for us (over a year). But in the long run, the results show that this DID help my kids concentrate in class (and at home) But didn't cause them to be vegetables. (oh and I do not give it to them on weekends and in vacation times)

In both cases, the doses have already been brought down and we still have monthly appointments to keep on top of it.

We are lucky. Not saying the meds are all good, but in my case, it really did help my boys and the results are there to prove it. Nonetheless, cant wait till they are completely off them, (its really expensive...good thing I have insurance)

If "homicide" includes the self inflicted homicide of one's self, then I concur as all these medications increase the chances of suicide and suicidal behavior - in some people more strongly than others.. but going on murdering rampages of others, then I would disagree with the article as a whole.

It sounds like they grouped suicide in with homicide (which CAN technically be done as suicide is in fact a homicide.. just of one's self) to make it sound much more dramatic and scary though..

I bet in about five years most of these meds will be pulled from the market and new ones, ones that have no proof yet that they cause problems, will be on the ads on TV along with the lawyers trying to get people to join a class action lawsuit which makes nobody but the legal firm any richer. Pharma companies have ties to these legal firms sometimes and the truth is blurred by the commercials. "Evidence shows that new born children are effected and if you have proof of this condition and were getting these symptoms while taking the medication call blah blah blah." Actually the drugs were pulled off for a much larger reason which hurt many people but they avoid telling you that. Next, you have to find a doctor to verify the meds caused that. If you succeed, then you will get a lump sum agreement ten years later of five hundred bucks. Ant the legal firm which is under control of the pharma companies gets mega bucks. It's all about getting us to look at something else and most people do not actually go searching for broad form information on the net about side effects. Unless the side effects are known by the company before hand and there is proof that they knew, you get nowhere at all with the suit. Their legal teams know how to write things.
