Little Kid is a voracious eater, always has been. It's not that she inhales copious amounts at meals, she's an all-day grazer. She eats until she's comfortably full, then lather, rinse, repeat a while later.
She's perfectly healthy, not lacking in any nutrients, no illnesses/syndromes, etc. The only advice anyone can pony up medically is "Let her eat when she's hungry". Well, thanks, care to suggest how we pull that off without going broke?
It's quite common for her to ask for food not 10 minutes after eating. It doesn't matter what it was she ate, "I'm hungry!" is coming. We usually make her wait a half hour to make sure she's still hungry (she almost always is) She has a bit of a bean pole physique, taking after Spyder, it takes a lot of food to keep both of them at a healthy weight. She can definitely out-eat him over the course of a day, though.
She's decided to be a vegetarian, through no coaching of our own. She will eat meat if it's irresistible enough for her (bacon) but for the most part, she won't eat animals & her protein comes mostly from high-protein veggies & fruits. Some of the highest protein-containing fruits & veggies are her favorites anyway, so we can go through obscene amounts of peas, spinach, broccoli, prunes (no joke), plums, peaches, banana. Sunflower seeds, walnuts, cashews she also plows through. And the obligatory eggs & milk. She's not that big a fan of beans, but will reluctantly eat them if she's hungry enough. From what I can gather, she's getting plenty of fiber, but simply needs more protein. I could try cooking with more fat, not lard per se, but maybe some solidified cocoanut oil? Olive oil & (real) butter may not be cutting it for her.
Is there anything else left out there we can give her that we won't go broke with?? She's sick of nut butters, so that'd likely be a flop to try right now. We've tried protein shakes as a mid-day snack, but she got sick of that. It DID help, and cut way down on how often she complained she was hungry. Maybe bake the remaining powder in to a snack bread? I'm sure I could come up with something to make from scratch, be it a bread or a trail mix bar of some kind.
If you're a natural bottomless pit, or spawned one, do you have any advice? Recipes for high-protein vegetarian meals or snacks, higher protein foods I might be overlooking, etc. Any will help!
