Uh Oh.... I hope this clears up quickly, because it could become a real mess if it doesn't. It's beginning to sound a little like 1980's Lebanon, and Iran used that situation to damn near bring down a U.S. President.
Shiite....I.E..Iranian. Those rebels that Iran sends warships and supply ships to support, and warns the US to avoid interfering with. Those Shiite rebels.
It COULD be worse, actually, and I'm serious about that. If they had been taken by ISIS or Al Qaeda affiliated sides...which are also strong in Yemen (it's a big mix-up there now, and you need a playbook to keep the players straight) they might have to fear losing their heads. Iranian proxies aren't known to do that, which I've heard anyway. They are just known to sustain people in a prisoner status for years, if necessary.

I can't point to which specific part of that last statement leaves me feeling most like these people are screwed...but I do have a hunch they are in for bad times before they see anything improve.
After all, we saw what a priority our own Ambassadors are to these people in power now ..what hope in hell do a few private contractors have? Then again .. rescue attempts have tended to kill who they were supposed to rescue as often as not lately, so maybe leaving them alone IS the best for them at this point?
What a total mess...and it's beginning to smell a lot like Carter around here.
Washington (AFP) - Several Americans have been detained in Yemen, a State Department official said Sunday, amid reports that at least four US citizens are being held by Shiite rebels.

"The protection of US citizens abroad is a top priority," he added, saying for privacy and safety reasons no further information could be given.
US officials, quoted by the Post, said none of those held were US government employees.
Three of the prisoners were believed to work in the private sector, while a fourth was a dual US-Yemen citizen.
