Is there more to this? Does it even matter if there is, for how BAD I think this looks?! I mean... WOW ... I had no clue by the recent headlines, how dirty this looks with just a little more information added.
Here is the accusation..
Okay, maybe true...maybe not..and who really knows? It's a pot of corruption calling a kettle of corruption a little blacker or something. Who knows which side to take by at this point, right?
Perhaps....? As they say..can't go back in time. Ahh well..and this is where I'd pretty much heard the story so far (obviously, I hadn't been paying close enough attention). The guilty are all innocent, and just ask them. Especially corrupt officials. They'll tell ya about their innocence and frame job until you agree just to shut them up!
Then..I came across...this. (Oh...how...?!)

What the..?! Who..?! What MORON thought there wouldn't be a suggestion (and perhaps an accurate one, too!) of a MAJOR conflict of interest here, and outright retaliation!? I mean, this investigation would need to have been running for awhile, right? Like...WHILE the US was a contender for the selection..RIGHT?!
So ..would this have still happened as a giant bitch slap to FIFA .....if the US had won the bid? Oh..I'm not sure we quite need a time machine to come up with a likely answer there.
I had figured (without that last little detail) that rotten soccer officials got what they had coming to them by what I had been hearing. Given the last piece tho? Oh...How could we?!
........and it isn't like this would be singularly unique in retialiation by this Administration for action they didn't appreciate.
United States of America Long-Term Rating Lowered To 'AA+' Due To Political Risks, Rising Debt Burden; Outlook Negative
S&P: The Government Sued Us As 'Retaliation' For Downgrade
Settling Case, S.&P. Backs Off Claims of U.S. ‘Retaliation’
For folks who followed that closely, the last stage of 'gee...we didn't mean to say they retaliated' is as much a question of 'who did the Government threaten to get that outcome' as it is a sincere change of heart in what I figured was an accurate call at the time.
Same thing tho.... S&P gave the White House a bad news day at a real bad time for it, and found themselves suddenly the focus of a near crippling federal enforcement action.
They aren't even subtle about this thuggish approach anymore. (sigh) ....We used to be a nation with a little honor..somewhere..?
Here is the accusation..
The worst corruption crisis in soccer history stems from the governing body's decision to award Russia and Qatar the next two World Cup tournaments, FIFA President Sepp Blatter said Friday.
Blatter spoke at the FIFA congress hours before the presidential election in which he is a seeking a fifth term. He has refused calls to resign after FIFA was targeted by U.S. and Swiss authorities in separate corruption investigations.

In 2010, Russia was chosen to host the 2018 World Cup and Qatar was awarded the 2022 tournament amid widespread allegations of wrongdoing.
"If two other countries had emerged from the envelope, I think we would not have these problems today," Blatter said. "But we can't go back in time. We are not prophets. We can't say what would have happened."

The United States was one of the losing bidders for the 2022 World Cup. On Wednesday, U.S. authorities indicted 14 people on bribery, racketeering, fraud and money-laundering charges going back to the 1990s.
