Well, it was fun while it lasted, and we could tell ourselves that China was 'up to something' out in those South China Sea waters...but who knew exacty what, and of course (we told ourselves) they couldn't mean to outright CLAIM the Spratly islands..could they?
Well..yes...that is precisely what China is doing. Effectively, if not by every step of "legal" takeover.
Oh..just what we needed.
Of course, they've been doing this by deed, anyway. They just hadn't put it into words yet, to rob the idiots of their self-delusions for how this could all work out nice and clean in the end. (It can't...and It won't..unless those with competing interests just surrender everything and hand the world to Beijing on a platter, with regards).

Well, dammit to hell. There is a truth in international relations that holds here. Something isn't necessarily 'real' until it's been said or acknowledged publicly. Until that moment, everything can be taken back as rumors and 'Oh..yeah right silly...we didn't mean to DO that!..just talk about it!'. Once it becomes policy, it demands actions and reactions from the other 200 some nations in the world, for whatever the issue may be.
In this case, I think Beijing threw down the gauntlet at Obama's feet and said "I dare ya, little man...give it your best shot!'. If Obama has wisdom...he'll turn his back and walk from this. He's a coward ANYWAY, and has proven THAT point many times already, so he need not fear losing face. He has none left to lose. However.....I have NO confidence AT ALL that Obama, as Commander and Chief, will do anything but get our asses kicked all over the Pacific Ocean if we try and play with China in their own backyard swimming pool.
Let a man with strength come after Obama..and work with whatever mess is left by then. It is BETTER than trying to "do" something, doing it completely wrong, and living with THAT mess for generations to come in both nations. ....assuming the majority of us live through too big a mess, anyway. China and the US are both capable of punching the other's ticket forever. ...and this may well mark the first time since 1945 that two powers with that ability faced off in a real sense.

In the new policy document published on Tuesday, China outlined its plans to shift from a defensive military posture to placing emphasis on offensive capabilities.
Claiming that it faces a "grave and complex array of security threats", including challenges to its sovereignty over the South China Sea, the policy document released by the State Council says the military will step up its "open seas protection".

China's forces will no longer be limited to defence of the nation's territory but will project its military power further beyond its borders at sea and more assertively in the air in order to safeguard its maritime possessions, the white paper states.
While the air force will shift focus from "territorial air defence" to both offence and defence, the Chinese army will increase its global mobility and its artillery will improve its "medium and long-range precision strikes", it said.
