Given the givens . . .
while I feel the opposite of any great need to help most seemingly deliberately and calloused TOS admin authoritarians wise-up . . . about such things . . .
it is a curiosity to me to have a reality check on my own perceptions.
The screamingly garish bright ads on both sides of the thread reader section outraged a great number of members. Yet, when appraised of that fact, the admin response appeared to be an extremely immature, blaming, abusive, flinging of intense outrage as though the victims were at fault.
It would appear that far too many site admins are eager for their readership numbers to CONTINUE crashing dramatically. How is that a winning business model?
I still don't understand the business model where the principles shoot themselves relentlessly in their feet and then scream blame-ingly at the victims of their cheekiness and greed.
The only explanation that I can think of is the persistent and chronic dysfunctional stuff that leaves individuals proud, thin-skinned and utterly convinced that they are smarter than everyone else on the planet and can just jolly well continue to do things in their usual counter-productive ways regardless of the adverse responses escalating from their members, customers, victims.
But that's my perspective. I was wondering how close to others' perceptions and observations my perspective tends to be in this case.
e.g.
--What sorts of ads are sooooo annoying as to markedly decrease one's inclinations to revisit a site.
It would SEEM TO ME that a site owner seeking increased readership WOULD WANT to know that??? But then maybe their pride is more important than even their wallets?
--What sort of ads are acceptable, reasonable--inviting but not overly intrusive?
It seems to me that THOSE are the kinds of ads that folks on the net are willing to put up with. It's kine of like the YOUTUBE ads. Those which do not allow one to skip them after 3-5 seconds are really annoying to me and I'm likely to close the window and avoid watching whatever video insists on using those ads. Rain on them. They can go suck rocks if they are determined to be that intrusive.
--I guess I'm saying--extend an inviting tease that's attractive then fade quickly into the background unless the reader clicks to watch/know more. A lot of ads are that way--and very cleverly so. That's reasonable.
--The UTTERLY DEMANDING-GRAB-YOU-BY-THE-JUGULAR sorts of ads are REALLY offensive, irritating, insufferable, exasperating and 99.9% of the time and they motivate me to immediately close whatever window they show up on--and sometimes to write the corporate president the ad is championing that the ad has resulted in me virtually swearing to never buy that product again, the rest of my life.
Am I the only one who feels that way?
--You'd think that the psychologists advising the ad agencies would have realized that a long time ago. I don't think it takes a PhD in psychology to realize the dynamics and their consequences of such things???!!!
--Ahhhh welll, arrogance and greed have always been horrific combinations through history--and seemingly overly prevalent among the elite and fantasized elite. Sigh.
