This topic is in regards to recent news Hacker took control of United flight and flew jet sideways, FBI affidavit says.

Now this so called "Hacker" has a name. A very well known name in the cyber security industry as a matter of fact. His name is Chris Roberts. Just a little info on Mr. Roberts.

Now the past few days I have seen a few news blurbs basically stating that a "Hacker makes airplane fly sideways". Sounds pretty serious right? I thought so until I remembered seeing this guy on "On the record with Greta". Oddly that video doesn't seem to be on youtube, but I found it on FOX.

I don't know about you, but after seeing this mans credentials and seeing him in the above video, he sounds pretty credible to me. But I guess those in government know better?

An alarming dispatch from the Hack In The Box security conference in Amsterdam arrived on Wednesday: a hacker says he's found a way to take over airplane controls. That's probably not true. At least according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the European Aviation Safety Administration (EASA) and Honeywell, the maker's of the cockpit software, it's not. The FAA, for one, says, "The described technique cannot engage or control the aircraft's autopilot system using the FMS or prevent a pilot from overriding the autopilot." The agency assures America that this hack "does not pose a flight safety concern because it does not work on certified flight hardware."

We're not trying to say that Teso's making all this up. But hacking into your desktop computer's flight simulator is something that middle school kids do in technology class. It's not reason to strike fear into the hearts of millions. But hey, at least Teso seems well intentioned. You certainly can't say that about all hacker-types these days.

Okay, so I can't get the hang of the BBC on Hernando's. *sigh* Please stay with me.

So far Mr. Roberts has NOT been arrested. It appears that the MSM is quoting the FBI from the hours they questioned Mr. Roberts.

A security researcher kicked off a United Airlines flight last month after tweeting about security vulnerabilities in its system had previously taken control of an airplane and caused it to briefly fly sideways, according to an application for a search warrant filed by an FBI agent.

Chris Roberts, a security researcher with One World Labs, told the FBI agent during an interview in February that he had hacked the in-flight entertainment system, or IFE, on an airplane and overwrote code on the plane’s Thrust Management Computer while aboard the flight. He was able to issue a climb command and make the plane briefly change course, the document states.

“He stated that he thereby caused one of the airplane engines to climb resulting in a lateral or sideways movement of the plane during one of these flights,” FBI Special Agent Mark Hurley wrote in his warrant application (.pdf). “He also stated that he used Vortex software after comprising/exploiting or ‘hacking’ the airplane’s networks. He used the software to monitor traffic from the cockpit system.”

Hurley filed the search warrant application last month after Roberts was removed from a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Syracuse, New York, because he published a facetious tweet suggesting he might hack into the plane’s network. Upon landing in Syracuse, two FBI agents and two local police officers escorted him from the plane and interrogated him for several hours. They also seized two laptop computers and several hard drives and USB sticks. Although the agents did not have a warrant when they seized the devices, they told Roberts a warrant was pending.

So at least since 2013 it appears the airline industry AND government has had people screaming at them, "HEY, THIS WI-FI IS HACKABLE!!!". However for one reason or another, they are purposely denying it is possible, or they just don't care for one reason or another.

Why not disable Wi-Fi on airplanes for passengers?

Why is the FAA and Feds not listening to this guy and working with him to solve the security issues instead of harassing him?

I just don't understand how this is being played out. Is it just me or is it ass backwards?

Anyhow, I apologize for the poor layout of this post. I wanted to just make everyone aware of how something just doesn't add up nor smell right about how the Feds are handling this. For the past 4 years, people have been bringing this issue up to deaf ears of those in charge.

What I find strange is how an "expert" in cyber security who has been WARNING the Feds of this for a few years, now becomes a "hacker"?

Is it embarrassment on the part of the Feds or is it something deeper?

I thought of what you mentioned as well, but instead of climbing further out on the limb, I chose to hug the trunk and address what could be a smoking gun....

I mean when you think about how quickly they formed the TSA in the name of our safety with their molesting checkpoints, I just don't see how something as severe and dangerous as this is going under the radar, UNLESS it is meant to go undiscovered until it is too late?

I don't know. Since this Hacker report hit the news, it has been bugging the hell out of me.
