If this isn't the most pathetic and outright sad statement about the situation with sports today, I don't know what is?

I don't know which is worse? Is it that some NFL teams actually demand money from our troops to show them some respect (while making it APPEAR patriotically motivated and entirely sincere) or that we have a Military willing to kow-tow to greedy pigs and pay this for the "show" of it all??
I've noticed this myself at times, and I'm not even a sports person in normal conditions. Football has "seemed" warmer than most, at least toward our troops and by showing appreciation. To now learn it was just more B.S. for direct payment? I'd prefer seeing them never lift a finger for the troops again, and I am sure many of us would happily return the favor when it comes to tickets, broadcasts and merchandising of their games.

Wow..I'm sorry? Was the fact this was a benefit to military recruiting supposed to make extorting our military OKAY? OF COURSE it is about recruiting! The Military does *EVERYTHING* related to public interaction with at least SOME eye toward recruiting benefit or negative impact. So....we KNEW that part.
What we didn't know, generally speaking, was that millionaires and billionaires, paid those insane amounts of money to play child's ball game, were exploiting the United States Soldiers for whatever they could squeeze them for.
Sure.....we can say that 300,000+ (for just ONE team's "take") didn't come from the soldiers personal pay, and it didn't of course. However, we have a military running more than the next several largest world powers COMBINED. People ask why?? How about crap like over $300,000 for a few appearances, lasting a matter of moments, to be "given appreciation" for their "sacrifice".....by scumbags charging them for every second of the time?
Will I watch professional football? I think I'll just reply with N.F.L.. N)OT F)RIGGEN L)IKELY. (and we can sub that middle word with something better....feel free to imagine it that way, instead)
Waiters spoke a day after a story in The News — which featured him on the cover — revealed that the Department of Defense and the New Jersey National Guard doled out $377,000 to the Jets over the last four seasons to honor military members at MetLife Stadium games.
Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) blew the whistle on the military money grab. Flake revealed that $5.4 million in taxpayer money went to the Jets and 13 NFL teams between 2011 and 2014 to give shoutouts to the troops while making it appear they were doing it out of patriotism.

The league is well known for sponsoring a number of charitable events, along with other “non-football” related activities promoting community and national service. One of the most touching – at least for me – is the way that the teams in the league have embraced the military, our veterans and current service members, and paid homage to the sacrifices they make for the nation. The military embraces the league in return, doing flyovers, flag displays and marching bands. It’s all a very good thing.

A Jets spokesman defended the deal as an advertising arrangement designed to assist the New Jersey National Guard in recruiting.
“Even though the agreement with the New Jersey National Guard has expired, we will continue to honor members of the military as we did before and during this relationship, including members of the New Jersey National Guard,” said Bruce Speight, a Jets spokesman. “If there are future agreements with the military, we will make it abundantly clear that an advertising relationship exists.”
