roflmao ...sorry, I had to get that out. Newport Beach is a short drive (or bicycle ride, as I knew it) from where I grew up and spent all my formative years as a small growing bunny. Oh......I can't help but say, just rewards to come to those who deserve them, sometimes....and Newport Beach is so full of themselves sometimes, you'd wonder how they have room left for residents?
(dreamy music sequence...) Once upon a time, in a snooty little community, far far away ...there lived a corrupt city Government (allegedly..heh), and a newspaper who figured someone ought to say something about it! Here, we go to the story:
Prior restraint? HA! They got caught red handed with their filthy mitts in the cookie jar, half ful of cookies....and they fought like hell to insure the public would never hear a word of their 'quiet handling of things'. (i.e...cover-up of corruption and outright criminal activity)
Oh, they were irreparably harmed, by the look of it. I don't argue that. However, when irreparable harm literally comes from the act of BEING CAUGHT FOR CRIMINAL ACTION? I'd say that irreparable harm is not only the POINT of the story, it is necessary in a free nation to insure this isn't more or the same, everywhere.

Now that is one hell of a coincidence. He gets busted in closed session, for at least 41 examples of unethical if not actionably criminal conduct, but just happens to ALSO figure this is when he wanted to retire anyway.
So...He basically sold out Newport Beach at a bargain price with his corruption ...and gets to comfortably retire afterward? Oh....No...and the O.C. Register agreed!
Good for them and free press. However crooked most media has seemed to become? Free press is still the only thing we have between freedom and the memory as we're told it used to exist, IMO

SANTA ANA, Calif. (CN) - The City of Newport Beach tried but failed Tuesday to stop the Orange County Register from publishing a story about spending by an assistant city manager.
In a bid for prior restraint, the city sued the Orange County Register, reporter Tony Saavedra and editor Andrew Mouchard at 11:51 a.m. Tuesday in Orange County Superior Court.

Saavedra called the city manager on Monday for a comment on the memo, and when the city attorney returned the call, Saavedra said he had the memo. City Attorney Aaron Harp asked for the name of Saavedra's editor - Mouchard - then called him and asked him to return the memo to the city. Mouchard refused.
The city sued a few minutes before noon Tuesday, asking the court to restrain the newspaper "from disclosing the closed session memorandum or its contents or any communications that occurred during the closed session." It claimed that the city would be irreparably harmed if the material were published.

Badum, who is retiring on May 2, denied the allegations and told the Register he is retiring for unrelated reasons.
The Register then cites the memo, saying City Attorney Harp listed 41 occasions when Badum may have received gifts "from companies that received no-bid contracts and other financial benefits from Newport Beach."
