Mystery of Ceres' bright spots grows

I'm wondering if volcanic activity is the cause of this, even though I have seen one article that says it's not. Also kind of curious if this is a effect of increased space weather.

But if it's aliens...that would be pretty cool too I think. As long as it is not an indicator of some weapon being warmed up.

I thought this looked familiar. But ice at the bottom of impact craters? That's some shiny ice!

But if they are ice plumes something is weird as even ice plumes in the vacuum of space will drift. At least they do say as Dawn gets closer, higher resolution data will be available.

The more I think about this the more I'm wondering "Reflections? Really?"

You see, when light waves hit a mirrored surface, they are reflected off at the same incident angle as they arrived at - but to the other side of the mirror. I learned that in physics, but knew it at a gut level before - I've used the phenomena to good effect when watching people watching ME, people who thought I had no clue, because they didn't realize I could see them.

SO - if light comes in from your left at a 45 degree angle to the mirror, it will be reflected off to your right, also at a 45 degree angle to the mirror. If the angle steepens in, it will also steepen out, to the same degree. if it gets more shallow in, it goes out more shallow as well - to the same degree.

In this image, it is presumed that all of the light is coming from the sun, nearly 90 degrees to the left, so it should reflect off to the right at the same angle. Instead, it appears to be "reflecting" directly back at the camera, as if the source is ALSO coming from the camera, or just behind it (we can see there is nothing in front of it).

That would have to be a VERY reflective surface (i.e. a polished and silvered mirror - not just "ice") to shine that brightly at that angle...

... or else a light source.

ETA: A mirrored surface, in order to reflect the sun to the camera from 90 degrees to the left, would have to be standing at about a 45 degree angle to both (90/2=45). That's mighty big to be a lake of ice that just stood up on it's own... and then there is the secondary glare behind it - why would something that big standing 45 degrees off the surface not block all light to any mirrored surfaces behind it?
