@guohua, @snarky412,
Here we go again, beating up on the guys. Is that a welcoming atmosphere? I wanted to sit near the fire, but I'm afraid one of you will flip me into it and I'll become a Crispy Critter.
Speaking of Crispy Critters, how's Storm doing? Sometimes it's a little tough to adjust to new surroundings.
I read a book in which the hero's favorite drink has "Bingara" as an ingredient. Searches turn up nothing for it, do you happen to have a clue?

Say guohua, I'm not sure our budget can cover many more Cuban cigars. I was in Winnipeg recently and, as you know, Cuban cigars are legal in Canada. I looked up Thomas Hinds, Tobacconists, and learned that one could spend $80 (US) per cigar, and well over $1000 for a box. Sorry to be dull and unadventurous (not to mention cheap), but I don't believe that they can be that much better.
My relatives there don't care for their Prime Minister, Harper. It's strange because he keeps getting elected and he finally has a majority government. My understanding is that he's the national politician closest to being Conservative. (But that he still has a long way to go, this is Canada after all.)

No...but stumbled across another person looking for it since they read about it in a book too
This is what they were saying...
I was actually googling 'gin and bingara' when i found this. Thanks, lovely lovely web. 'The only hardboiled-type guy I can think of who regularly drank a mixed drink is Marid Audran, the hero of George Alec Effinger's Budayeen novels (When Gravity Fails, A Fire in the Sun, and The Exile Kiss; they're near-future science fiction, but very much in the hard-boiled detective tradition). Marid always drank something called "gin and bingara" with a splash of Rose's Lime. I've always wanted to try it, but I have no idea what bingara is.
Every once in a while, I remember Marid and do a Google search for bingara...but the closest I've come is that Bingara is the name of a town in New South Wales, Australia. Maybe Effinger made it up. We can't ask him, because he died in 2002 at 55 years old. Which is sad. What's infinitely sadder is that he only wrote those three Marid Audran novels. They're fantastic, and when you reach the end of the third and realize there aren't any more...well, it's kinda like an alcoholic realizing the bottle's empty and there's never going to be another one.'

Bodyguards? After seeing those film clips, I was afraid YOU were going to flip me into the fire.
Let's see, what else is news from Solarius' country?
Canada beat Russia to win the world junior hockey tournament, 5-4. That's big news there. The US wasn't in the final four teams.
Human rights and immigration lawyers are upset that the Canadian government is increasing the fee for citizenship. Last year they raised the fee from $100 (CDN) to $320. This year it will go up to $530. Claims are made that it will keep the poor from voting, that it's against the spirit of the country, etc. Fees for citizenship in the US and UK are higher. My sister asked, "How will the desperately poor afford that?"
