Hmmm, a pattern is emerging and I don't like it. Last time I drank beer I ended up with a mild bout of gout in my left foot. Went out this weekend and bought ten wiezens (Pricey!) while farm sitting. This doesn't bode well. ol522295b2 But still it doesn't seem like a couple beers a day would do this to me. I'll have to keep a eye on it.
Oh well, at least I got to have it when I could if I have to give it up.
Doug, I have a co-worker that gets gout so bad she can't walk at times. When she went to the doctor he told her to leave the beer alone. She can have other forms of alcohol to drink, but there's something in beer that will make gout flare up. She was upset by this because she likes to have a beer from time to time. He told her to drink cherry juice... the good, expensive kind you get at the health food store. She said it is really sour. The doctor said to remedy this, put 2 tablespoons cherry juice into a small glass of Sprite and drink it. She said that helps a lot! I think she must be slipping a beer in at times, because she comes to work complaining with the gout every now and then. She's one of those people who does't follow doctor's orders very well if there's something she wants.
I haven't gave up beer. But I have decreased the amount of red meat I eat and have eliminated fish.seafood. I haven't had a bout since. I also drink a ton of water with lemons. And eat the lemons from the day before with breakfast.
Concerning your friend and the cherries...those freaking little bits a goodness are freakin' expensive, so I don't blame her. But I do abide by the cherry philosophy to a degree. They are good for you in limited quantities.
If she wants her booze, maybe you should try suggesting that she adds it to her drink.
Beware the man who has one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

Doug, now that I think of it, there was two brands that the doctor said she could drink. I think it was Miller and Slitz (don't know if I spelled that last one right).
She makes a face just saying the brand name. She's a "Bud" drinker.
