Oh No! Run! It's the rise of the machines!
Now that is downright insulting if they mean to compare this trashcan on wheels to R2-D2. I like the cute little droid of Star Wars fame. He and C-3PO were probably the better actors in the whole series, truth be known. (grin)
This one isn't half the 'bot R2 was tho.

I don't think R2 would have politely excused himself around an intruder and direct threat...but then, they want a kinder, gentler and downright happy face on the ..first versions..of this new trend.
Personally, I have 2 questions about this little can. 1st...is it's optical sensors shielded from laser light? (wicked grin) ..no particular reason I'd ask..just curious.
Also... How does this bucket of bolts react to 50,000 volts delivered by the twin prongs of a stunner? Does it take tickling it in the right spot to get a reaction, or will any old place work to give it a well earned break and rest from its little patrol?
MOUNTAIN VIEW (KPIX 5) – A new kind of security guard is on patrol in Silicon Valley: crime-fighting robots that look like they’re straight out of a sci-fi movie.
At first glance, the K5 security robot looks like a cartoonish Star Wars character.

The security robots are autonomous, meaning they operate on their own. They don’t chase a bad guy down or make arrests.
They are designed to avoid confrontations. When someone steps right in front of one, the robot will stop. Then it will redirect its path around the person. All the while, sending video inside to a control center where a human is monitoring.
