Just posting this because of the outrageous amount claimed... And thinking about how many more are on the Ebola watch list !
Senator Charles Schumer wants President Obama to pick up New York City’s more than $20 million tab for treating its first Ebola patient.
Since the Big Apple and Bellevue Hospital treated and cured Dr. Craig Spencer of the “infectious disease that is a threat to the nation,” the New York lawmaker believes the government should pony up and reimburse the city.
Good for him for realizing that taxpayers pay the bills for government, that the money government spends is real money, and that there's only so much of it.
Bad for him for reinforcing the thinking that the Great Everfilled Teat of Money in the Sky (i.e. the Federal treasury) should descend and top off anybody that wants it.
Emory University Hospital treated and cured two Ebola patients on its own. Maybe New York needs to suck it up, take credit where credit is due.
And maybe Mr. Schumer can retire and make more money in the private sector that he can give to the City if he so chooses, i.e. Senator put your money where your mouth is for a change.
(Told you I was more fiscally conservative than you thought, LOL)
If I were in a more charitable mood, (I'm still pretty hacked at the DNC and the entrenched Democratic "leadership") I might say that the Senator is trying to shine a light on just how expensive it can be to treat even ONE case of ebola, that we need to be prepared as a nation with contingency plans and set aside the funds to do what we need to do when we need to do it.
But knowing the Senator, I would guess his first thought went no further than simply to get money from the government.
He's up for re-election in 2016; his mind's on his money and his money's on his mind.
Wow when you think about 20 million for curing a single infected person, thank god there wasn't an outbreak. How long can we support the digital money system before it comes down around our ears and the economy crashes? I surprised anyone would say anything about this when Gruber said Ted Kennedy was able to get 400 million every year for Romney Care from the feds. We have seriously screwed up not watching these political scammers more closely. BTW Gryphon it's nice to see you.

Good to see you too Marlin. I look forward with great joy to our inevitable sparring.
I know that some will attribute this to my liberal leanings, but, here's my bottom line:
I have absolutely no confidence and therefore no concern in our money. The dollar is a note. It is not currency; it is a promise to pay. Pay what? Not gold, silver or even copper.
Money has meaning because we say that is does. Watch your bank account. If you're like me you barely carry money anymore. So I watch a column of figures go up and down and that's it.
I think Schumer probably understands that, and so to him and other of the folks in Washington, it's not even a real thing anymore, "a billion here a billion there" kind of mentality.
When you realize that a large portion of our national debt (debt not deficit) is money we have "borrowed from ourselves" ... you begin to understand that we're really just playing with the equivalent of Monopoly money.
It's not real. That doesn't mean it's not important.
