I had a feeling that Israel would feel absolutely no need to be subtle about the distaste for what happened in this case. I've never personally seen the U.S. do something like this with a high level ally (by that I mean, a nation we have dozens of treaties and ongoing agreements with, from military to medicine to search and rescue in disasters).

To be honest? I think this story comes down to a far simpler truth and issue than it first seems. It comes down to service and understanding the mindset or world view that brings with it, as a general rule. Obama's closest position to service to his nation has been the posted Marine guards that hold umbrellas for His Highness to avoid being rained on. Israel, on the other hand, is a conscription country for military service. (Or..compulsory, if that is a nicer way to put it). Everyone serves tho .... and I think that really IS the difference.
I think Obama and Co. honestly believed they could play the Israeli public and it would work, as it does in America. People here have more in common with Obama than with Israelis. Over there tho? I think it backfired by actually helping Netanyahu win an election he may have been meant to LOSE ...if Israelis hadn't gotten their backs up about blatant outside attempts to manipulate them.
I think this is what VERY high stakes international game playing looks like....when it's being done by people with all the experience of a training program and movies to think back on. Amateur hour...with really high costs.
"What was not well reported in the American media is that President Obama and his allies were playing in the election to defeat Prime Minister Netanyahu," John McLaughlin, a Republican strategist, said in an interview on John Catsimatidis's "The Cats Roundtable" radio show broadcast Sunday on AM 970 in New York.
"There was money moving that included taxpayer U.S. dollars, through non-profit organizations. And there were various liberal groups in the United States that were raising millions to fund a campaign called V15 against Prime Minister Netanyahu," McLaughlin said.
He noted an effort to oust Netanyahu was guided by former Obama political operative Jeremy Bird and that V15, or Victory 15, ads hurt Netanyahu in the polls. McLaughlin said the Israeli leader rebounded after delivering a speech to Congress early this month, prompting more critical ads.
