That was the message sent in new and deafening terms by one D.C. area High School recently. In a protest meant to get the attention of the Federal Government, with their dictates of lunch menus across our land, those on the eating side are increasingly choosing hunger to a forced concept of 'good' by someone else's definition of it. Images of scraps sitting on trays, suddenly enormous by their lack of content, have come to define an embarrassing defeat for domestic policy initiative.
When one cannot even dictate terms effectively to the browbeaten and captive audience within a modern US school? It's more than approach that needs work. It's the whole message that I'd say has hit the rocky coast of total, unmitigated failure.
Indeed... They aren't the only ones to look down and realize, the days of junk food lunch wasn't so bad compared to starvation by bureaucracy.

They claim it isn't up to them.... Ahh yes... The logic this President has introduced us to as, perhaps, his TRUE lasting legacy for our nation. "Everyone is to blame so no one is actually at fault!". It's the logic of an immature child, imagining creative ways to beat a red handed bust by the parents. It's pathetic to see stated by educators who need education themselves...and desperately.
YES THIS IS UP TO THEM, 100%, TOTALLY AND UP TO NO ONE BUT THEM.
There ... I said it, and no lightning bolt has struck me down. No MIB's kicked down my door and no interruption of net service has come. That is truth spoken right there, but we have so castrated the ability to use critical thinking in this nation today, even BASIC LOGIC is beyond those that make education their life's work.
When these schools turned to suck off the teat of Uncle Sam (don't try the visual..it's not pretty to imagine), they sold themselves, their ability to run their own operations and everything which made them more than 'yes men' and lackeys to the Federal agenda. Gone was the ability to say 'Gee..That's a really DUMB idea..we aren't doing that!!'. Why?? They've gotten very addicted to the drug of money and the drug peddlers in Washington keep it coming like a crack dealer servicing a produce market in the Bronx.
Our kids are choking on total garbage, in tiny portions anyway....not simply because a First Lady has more ideals than brains to match with them. She isn't the first to suffer that mismatch of talent. No...It is because the people we trust to educate our children have come to get their fix from the Feds so dutifully as to refuse to even question anything anymore. "Yes Sir! Thank you SIR! May I have ANOTHER SIR?!" has come to be the mantra of public education in America ....
Now if we only had citizens on something above starvation rations at school, to develop into a generation capable of putting an end to this ...we might have hope.

The D.C. Everest High School senior organized the boycott of the “healthy” overhaul of her school’s lunches, which came as the result of an effort championed by First Lady Michelle Obama.
“We looked at our lunches, and we were like, you know we’re not being served anything that’s really that healthy and we’re just being served really small portions of processed foods and we want more healthy options,” Hellrood tells WSAW.

While school leaders sympathize with the students, they claim it’s not up to them.
“As a school, obviously we want what’s best for our kids. And we’re trying to provide very healthy, setting a good example for what a good diet is for a student. This is legislation. This is not something that’s school based so D.C. Everest really isn’t in a position to change these kinds of things,” Christine Welsh, Supervisor of Food Services at the high school tells WSAW.
