Sparks from the fire flew upward along the trails of smoke dancing like lightning bugs in the night sky. The full moon smiled down upon them as they sat next to each other by the warm campfire. The stars twinkled like the gleam in his eyes as he reached out to hold her hand. Spring had just begun but there was still a little nip in the cool night air. “Would you like a blanket to wrap up in?” he asked her out of concern when he saw her body make a little shiver. “No my love…” she replied, “but your arms around me would do the trick.” He moved closer by her side and wrapped his arms around her, warming her in more ways than one. She closed her eyes as she leaned against his body, then her mind began to wander…
Who would have thought a year ago that this is where they’d be? It had been a long and difficult journey, but it had not all been so bad. Yes, there were times when it would have been so easy just to throw in the towel but their love was strong and each obstacle had made them each ever more determined to keep fighting the good fight no matter who or what stood in their way… and here they were. They made it and were both better for it in every way imaginable.
She opened her eyes as he said “Time to add some more wood to the fire.” She watched him move to throw another log on the fire and her heart skipped a beat. The love she felt for this man, her man, was a kind she had never known before and would never know again. She felt the smile spread on her face as it turned into an uncontrollable grin. She picked up her glass of wine and stood, walking slowly to him. She softly kissed his cheek and whispered “Thank you.” He looked at her questioningly and asked “For stoking the campfire?” “No,” she whispered “for loving me and making me the happiest woman in the world.” He softly smiled, wrapped one arm around her and kissed her deeply. She tenderly took his hand and gently pulled him, leading him toward their tent. As she unzipped the tent and climbed in she turned with a mischievous grin and said “Let me show you just how happy you make me my love.”
As the fire crackled on and the crickets chirped only the moon and the stars shining through the top of the tent witnessed the happiness and joy that was expressed then, but even if they could talk they would not tell the tale for they keep the secrets of all lovers…
