When does that time come? It is an interesting question that isn't strictly academic here lately.
In the last few weeks, we have watched the war between two men heat up and heat up in ways to say more about the men themselves, than the fight has them saying about each other.
The fight I refer to here is Barack Obama and 'Bibi' Netanyahu, of course.
It was quite a thing to see...when the President went nearly postal over the Speaker of the US House inviting a foreign leader to speak at an assembly. This has happened before (inviting..not the extreme reaction). It will happen again. It isn't precedent setting to see it without White House notice or blessing in advance of every other party involved, and whatever they'd like to suggest? I'll never believe Congress just didn't tell them until it appeared on CNN. Congress gave the White House NO room for 'approval rights', and that sent them postal.
By the way, contrary to the Bimbo Brigade at CNN, and whom I caught a bit of yesterday? Apparently the Pope visited, without White House permission before the invitation was issued, as another example..and what CNN got sadly wrong is that the Pope *IS* a head of state and the leader of a nation (Oh..I wanted to scream at the TV as the bimbo kept on and on about it). It is a tiny nation (Holds a record for that, I believe..but then..depending on what period of history? Calling the Holy See "small" anything is relative to who is forming the opinion. ...and who is on the pointy end of Church policy). Still..a nation it is.....and ignorant they are at Turner's old network for a recent and comparable example.
...........So what is all this about choices and why should we care or even think that way? Well...It has ALSO become known just WHY the White House went ballistic over Bibi coming to town. The White House has previously, secretly, threatened to start OPEN WAR with Israel and quite recently, for the benefit of IRAN (cue dramatic crescendo). (ahhh..now things start making sense)
Are they kidding?? 6 years ago, Israel was as solid and strategic an Ally to this nation as ENGLAND. Perhaps more so, on strategic value, in fact. England is one of several in the European neighborhood which would become a U.S. Military Base if worst case scenarios came to pass. Israel is a nation of ONE ..or WAS...that the US could count on without much question. (historic references to the USS Liberty aside...and I'll happily bury that topic WITH the conspiracy theory, in another thread some day). Now??
^^^ A point I'd say is self-evident and even Bibi has the brain cells to muster sense for the obvious. The problem (for us) is that Israels history does not show game playing, or in/out wishy washy responses. One wimpy show in Lebanon was an exception...and that was recent too, although not under Netanyahu.
According to one former diplomat I've made no bones about calling an enemy in plain site for a number of reasons.......Brzezinski had this to say:

What the heck are these people thinking? Iraq is not "US". They're talking about Israeli war planes flying over (their) neighboring nations while we are on foreign bases in someone ELSE's nation???
If Israel had the lack of intelligence to overfly Diego Garcia, I'd say the Brits ought to have more than a protest over it...and some Israeli jets crashing into the Indian Ocean is the price of extreme dumb. Likewise if Israeli fighters directly overflew a U.S. Aircraft Carrier (if we had any at sea and they went into the Med) with weapons on the wings and obviously dressed to kill? I hope they enjoy the swim, is what I'd say.
Israeli jets overflying a Middle Easter Nation tho?? What gives US the right, unless we are directly functioning as the defense for The Islamic Republic of Iran?
So.....I guess Brzezinski was pissed off when an allied nation didn't shoot down the Israel warplanes that stopped Saddam's real nuclear ambition with a smoke ruin of a reactor construction?
The Osiraq Nuclear Power Plant and 1981 Israeli Destruction of It
So I think there is a bottom line here, and it isn't a line we're at yet, as a people, but we're headed there real quickly.
Prophecy describes a period of time where Israel will fall under attack, standing alone, and depending on which Holy Book one reads? They'll survive it in mystery, be totally destroyed by it, or make it through to become the center of major world altering events to follow.
6 years ago, I honestly couldn't, in any circumstance, foresee a point where Israel would stand alone and perhaps, even have reason to fear the U.S. while taking action provoked by and strictly limited within the Middle Eastern region. Bush most definitely HAD sidelined Israel in 1990/91, and I'm not sure what the actual wording may have been to see that happen ....but trust back in the U.S. was part of it, I'm sure. Trust...now? We've apparently threatened to destroy their combat aircraft over a 3rd party nation...
The question, in the end, and how this fits in this forum? Well, it's a simple one if you're a Believer or, like me, not an UNBeliever in scripture and old Holy Text.
When does the time come for making choices .......and ones which could have near eternal consequence for mortal deeds done one way OR the other?

The report claimed that an unnamed Israeli minister who has good ties with the US administration revealed the attack plan to Secretary of State John Kerry, and that Obama then threatened to shoot down the Israeli jets before they could reach their targets in Iran.

Netanyahu and his ministers decided to do whatever they could do to thwart a possible agreement between Iran and the White House because such an agreement is, allegedly, a threat to Israel's security.”

“We have to be serious about denying them that right,” he said. “If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back or not. No one wishes for this but it could be a 'Liberty' in reverse.’"
