I got it through Steam for my hubby for an early birthday gift. I ended up giving it a whirl out of curiousity, the graphics snagged my attention.
Dammit. I'm hooked now. Haven't bothered with STO at all in...well, a while. I'm no fantasy game fan by any means. I did cut my MMO teeth on Hero back in the early 00's (side note: which seems to have turned into a browser-based game since then) But I could never get into any other fantasy MMOs. Tried Perfect World, and several others, but just couldn't get into the story or gameplay at all. Skyrim? Hooked. Granted, it's not an MMO, but this is making me very interested in giving the MMO a try.
I haven't done too much of the main questline so far, but somehow, I've managed to bring home 2 orphans in the game already o.O And I game-spoil the crap out of them. They're probably the only kids in Whiterun who get to raid the market with 1000 gold regularly.
Any others made converts by Skyrim? Or better yet, anyone else spend entirely too much time on the game? L_L

I recently got it through Steam but I guess I haven't gotten the point yet.. I'm almost level 10 and over into the next major valley on the map from the starting area but seems a grind?
What am I missing?
Talking about steam games, I got Salt a couple days ago and that's an interesting game for a cheap Alpha. It has a long way to go, but if they work on it and stay up with it? It could turn into an incredible exploration/survival game. The premise is sailing between islands of different kinds to get different resources, build bigger and better boats or ships and explore more. It's a gigantic ocean and dozens of known islands so far (it's a really REALLY big ocean)

I loved the graphics on Elder Scrolls and was in on the Beta. I hated the controls! I was once a WOW addict and shied from that due to human drama. So I wasn't new by any means, to MMO's. I just couldn't like the control/game mechanisms as much as I tried to.
I do have an older version of Skyrim but not the new one. But I can honestly say I prefer Skyrim! For me if I have issues completing a quest that should be easy, but yet I can't get it done? Then I am done with the game! That was my issue with Elder Scrolls.
Right now, I pretty much just play Neverwinter. Although they seem to be having an issue with Nvidia graphics cards, I haven't even played it that much anymore. I have a 660ti and it is a graphics flustercluck when I get into a group that is ganking some dragons.

I'm at level 17 myself, it's kind of grindy in some spots, like if you're just out roaming & gathering plants & animal pelts/parts/meats. But most of the time you can pick up a multitude of side-quests to do alongside the main. Stuff like handling disputes or finding lost family heirlooms, etc. And there's mercenary stuff that crops up when you stumble on it. Put it this way -- you'll stumble on so many side-quests that you'll end up having a laundry list accumulated in short order. There's no pressure to get to them stat, though, just as you please. Actually, there's no pressure to do the main questline ASAP either, it's pretty lax on what you do & how fast.
I think the valley you're referring to is the Whiterun valley? Unless you were in a different direction & not north on the road (or traveling the river on the mountain side like I did until I hit Whiterun) The quests get better fast, trust me. The Thalmor embassy infiltration quest wasn't half bad. I actually wish it was a little longer & more in-depth, I rather enjoyed sneaking around those smarmy jerks' embassy. The best one I've done so far was to travel to Solstheim waaaay up off the NE edge of the map, you have to catch a boat from Windhelm (this is the Dragonborn add-on you probably have since you did the Steam buy) Now that was fun. Temple of Miraak, Apocrypha (Hermaeus Mora/Black Books quest) Apocrypha. OMG, that was an awesome quest. That was probably someone's bad shroom trip they put to good video game use, it was really creepy, dark & surreal (hard as hell at a lower level, gotta love stumbling on god mode -- tgm. Which fyi, is a very useful command here & there) Temple of Miraak was a great puzzle itself, and an eyecandy ruins map. I'm looking forward to doing the rest of the Black Books quests, if Apocrypha was any hint to the quality.

Now that sounds different. They may have the market cornered on that theme. We'll have to look into it eventually, it sounds up my alley.

Now you have me intrigued to make a purchase!
Yeah, that's an ongoing issue with PWE & their games -- ignoring graphics card issues. Trust me, they're doing no better with STO's glitchy graphics. One update FUBARed my large queues gameplay. If too many space weapons are going off at once, I go into zombie ship mode & wander aimlessly (as do many others) This has become such an issue that the 20-player fleet base defense queue that used to be extemely popular is no longer played at all. Sad to see it dead in the queue list like this, but PWE's priorities aren't exactly ones that make sense lately.

I decided to go opposite of hubby and have my character join the Stormcloaks. Which eventually leads to a seige on Whiterun (sorry for the spoiler there) Now, normally, I'd just go with the quests and not think twice, but when I got to the Stormcloak base camp outside Whiterun and saw the city smoking & burning, I actually started to feel a little rotten about choosing that faction. Then, I had this dawning realization of "CRAP! MY game kids are in there!!" I've actully started to get a little attached to them, lol. What really ramps up the guilt is that when you evetually get in to Whiterun, you've got damage left & right, and you can't get into your house at all. You panic, thinking you just exiled yourself, lost everything you've stashed in the hosue, lost your digital kids, etc. Long game story short, after the changeover from Imperial to Stormcloak control, you do get the house back after talking to the new Jarl, with everything where it should be (kiddos included) WHEW.
And I hate the Blades now. As helpful as Delphine was, a certain thing they demanded my character do to another character (that is very helpful with & crucial to getting rid of Alduin) was the Nope point. Next time I see Delphine, I'll be quite tempted to just off her ass.
Spyder decided to install some mods for Skyrim. He was aware the mods wiped his character, and he had to start over. The mods wiped MINE, too. So much for a little middle of the night gameplay, all I have access to for an existing character option for some reason is HIS new one.
To say I'm pissed is a bit of an understatement. I tend to carefully construct my characters and seldom delete them. This one, I really liked. I was almost maxed on my alchemy, no less

I love all the Elder Scrolls, Skyrim is the best yet, them dragons aint nothing lol and its the only addiction I suffer from. I have completed it more times than any game I have played and always finding new things. 123ninI have only played it on xbox tho cannot get used to games on the PC. If I get stuck on anything I google it and always find the solution.
