Awwwwwww........crap.
I had entirely missed in all the recent references to 'other extremists' that THESE people had been what Uncle Sam had been thinking of. (rolls eyes)

These people are a threat and a serious one. The problem is, in my opinion, the term 'Sovereign Citizens' is awfully vague by how the media reports this. Almost like its interchangeable with other groups or something.
It absolutely isn't, and that is the important take away. I may make no real friends here, but so be it, my opinion has been unpopular before and it'll be that way again. I kinda accept that. However, I'll just outright say, the actual "Sovereign Citizen" movements, where you have true believers, are a menace to society and a threat to each of us.
They DO scare the hell out of law enforcement, and there is a very good reason for that. In THIS case, it isn't paranoia, as so much of their vague reaction to bogeyman threats seem to be. They (and the rest of us, for that matter) have good reason to fear these folks.

By the way, the CNN report refers to a shooting precisely like the one above. The one above happened in West Memphis, Arkansas and in 2010. Not Louisiana in 2012. I can only hope there was a Louisiana case as well, and they didn't get so careless in fact checking. The West Memphis shooting was a big event in this region of the nation when it happened. The cold, casual and outright brutal violence was shocking for this general area. The cops didn't even have a chance but to die well. It was a wake-up call, or should have been.
I say 'awwww crap' simply because these ARE threats to BOTH "sides" in this nation's political struggle for the heart and soul of our future. These fringe militants fit in as a wild card I don't believe either side really wants, as they are known to go postal without THAT much regard for who, why or provocation.
Another bit of background is here...
Sovereign Citizens: A Clear and Present Danger
Some folks may well disagree with me, and again, thats fine. That is the core of a free nation. Disagreement without being disagreeable. I would note though, my issue isn't with the message those groups publicly push regarding major problems in need of solutions. It is with their reckless disregard for human life and victimizing others, whether others did anything to deserve the grief or not. Its with the idea that simply ignoring the system will somehow make it work right, or work at all.
This is just the worst timing for these fruit loops to pop up. Then again, that is when fruit loops normally pop up, isn't it? At the most inopportune moment.

Washington (CNN)They're carrying out sporadic terror attacks on police, have threatened attacks on government buildings and reject government authority.
A new intelligence assessment, circulated by the Department of Homeland Security earlier this month and reviewed by CNN, focuses on the domestic terror threat from right-wing sovereign citizen extremists, and comes as the Obama administration holds a White House conference to focus efforts to fight violent extremism.
Some federal and local law enforcement groups view the domestic terror threat from sovereign citizen groups as equal to -- and in some cases greater than -- the threat from foreign Islamic terror groups, such as ISIS, that garner more public attention.

When Paudert and Evans initiated a stop of the Kanes' Dodge Caravan on Interstate 40, the elder Kane yielded the van without incident. But that quickly changed when the officers parked behind the van and approached on foot.
Perhaps it was the strong possibility that his father might be arrested that led Joseph to arm himself with an AK-47. Maybe it was the knowledge that he, too, would be subject to arrest for the firearms and marijuana the Kanes had in their possession. Whatever the impetus for his actions, they were as sudden and aggressive as they were decisive.
Sixteen-year-old Joseph Kane gunned down the two lawmen with the assault rifle.
