I literally stumbled across this earlier while hunting for an old index I'd seen years ago. I never did find that index but I found something much much better. Oh...this is over the top for useful in terms of factual, solid and nearly unimpeachable data for self-education, debate or just general discussion.
It's a collection largely hosted by and link to United Nations websites and sources, but like the American CIA? You don't have to like the UN to admit one thing. In terms of pure busywork nonsense enormous numbers of people can be set to doing? Few in the world top those two...and gathering data/statistics is something they DO very well.
Unlike many index listings like this, these almost ALL go directly to real, useful and valuable information. Many others will send you off on wild goose chases of logins or registration required when it isn't outright pay stuff. THIS is all public domain and almost all (98% of this) is openly accessible.
Dag Hammarskjöld Library Research Guides (This is the main index site)
Here are a couple samples of what it has....
I've just started into it and here are 3 I've added as primary research sources myself......
Military Expenditures (Click on the map)
Register of Conventional Arms
Global Indicators of ALL kinds / Maps
...and if you like RSOE for quake and other major disaster info? You'll love this.
GDACS (Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System)
Enjoy!
