As someone who is in the middle, and therefore a part of the electorate that generally determines who wins...
Sarah Palin is unelectable. She has too much baggage, a poor reputation and nothing to really attract centralists. If she was the Republican candidate, she'd pretty well ensure that the Democrat would get in.
To be honest, I think it's going to be awhile before a woman has a chance at the Presidency any how Even Hillary
The United States still has that "It's a Man's World" mentality, especially when it comes to positions of high power as the White House (white rich elite males)
And I mean that in the utmost respect to my male Hernando buddies It's not meant as a slam, only the truth of the matter
Women are acceptable in many areas as CEO's and such, but as President of the most powerful country? Nope, not any time soon .... nor will a black man be elected any time soon either, thanks to Obama & Co. with their handy race card that they love to play
I have no problem voting for a woman, or for a person of colour.
I do have a problem voting for anyone whom I consider a fringe candidate, or whose primary appeal is their divisiveness, and Sarah Palin fails on both of those, just as President Obama did for me when he was a candidate.

A horrifying thought just occurred to me - what if the race boils down to Palin vs Hillary?
Now I'm gonna have nightmares... and it's my own damned fault for thinking about this too much!
Oh, that would actually be a GOOD thing for me. If that is the choice, and one of those two win? It will remove all the weird feelings of betraying a member of the family...to become an Ex-Pat in a warm spot in some other region of the world.
I can't just leave my life's home unless it pushes a bit. I just won't be able to enjoy paradise that way. Those tho? It'd be a boot in the butt and right out the departures lounge for me.

Now damn it Nin, why'd you have to go and say that!!
What, you wantin' us to have your nightmares too?! LOL
Misery loves company - and there is safety in numbers!
About the woman president - I have no problem voting for a woman... just not any of the three (so far) that the Washington Procurement Services are throwing at us! A woman would have to have the same qualifications as a man to get my vote - competence would be a good start! So far, none of the MEN they're throwing at us have that qualification, either.
Now a "person of color"... I dunno. Sure, if they can declare what color they are. If they're able to figure at least that out. they might have a start, If they CAN'T even figure out what color they are, we might have another set of problems. I still recall Jessie Jackson and his "Rainbow Coaltition" hounding me for membership back in the 90's, when I was at university (I guess they got my name off of a list because I had a minority scholarship - "Native American"... blasted labels!). Their letters always started out "Dear Person of Color". It annoyed me no end that those folks could not settle on what color they were and have any pride in their heritage, and wanted ME to join that club too! No thanks! I used to write 'em little notes back and tell them I'd consider it if I ever woke up one day looking like a rainbow - but not otherwise.
I never got a response to those notes. It's probably just as well.
I actually like Palin, though not enough to vote for her if she ran for POTUS. I think that she would make a great Secretary of the Interior though.
I can't see her in any other cabinet level position other than that though. I think that she could put the brakes on the EPA, DNR, etc. They're running crazily rampant these days.
Beware the man who has one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

This is about how I feel and with any 'group', for that matter. Hell, they can elect a gay so flaming he paints the whole thing pink and renames it the Pink House for his 4 years. I really wouldn't care beyond a facepalm for good measure every so often...after all..pink would clash with the rest of the city, wouldn't it?
If that man with the love for pink had the sense God gave a goose to FIX what he could...WORK with others for what he couldn't and in GOOD FAITH, not in a 'gotcha' hunt to hurt everyone not in full agreement, ..and didn't look at the world as being OWED something by America?
He'd have my vote twice over and I suppose we'd all learn something about just how little those details of what we look like or believe really matter vs. competence and professional ability.

You know, I wouldn't even care what the gender or color of the skin of a person would be in a presidential election. Those things shouldn't be a measure in a person's character, ability, wisdom, compassion, or intellect. Those are the traits that should be sought in any political candidate irrespective of race, religion or gender.
What's the old saying? Don't judge a book by its cover. Measure it by its content, I say.
Technically, I was referencing the rhetoric in the thread in general and not specifically to the general overall reduction in the caliber of politicians. In that regard, I'd tend to agree with adjensen and I'd say that the advent and increased usage of the internet (everything is a sound bite these days) has only served to hasten the decline downward. There's still some good politicians on all sides of the aisle but most seem to be total crap who, if they weren't so bloody rich, I'd be expecting to find trying to peddle lemons on an used car lot.

I think it's safe to say that none of us in this thread are 'judging' a person
I'm myself just stated the facts of reality that when our country is run by a bunch of old white rich male elitists, THEY are the are the ones who sit in judgement (TPTB) and would frown upon a woman in charge of them
Most of the guys here already said that they had no problem with a woman pres. Most of us said that we didn't have a problem with another black pres BUT that Obama might have ruined their chance of winning
That's not being judgmental, just an observation and a truthful one at that

I only have a problem with a woman as president if she is a Taurus. roflmao
