Oops... I hate it when balls get to losing pressure. It's even worse when someone catches it, eh?
According to a National Football League letter about the investigation into the controversy that was shared with the Globe, the Patriots were informed that the league’s initial findings indicated that the game balls did not meet specifications. The league inspected each of the Patriots’ 12 game balls twice at halftime, using different pressure gauges, and found footballs that were not properly inflated.
According to ESPN, 11 of the 12 game balls were found to be underinflated by about 2 pounds each. The NFL specifications say they must be inflated to 12½ to 13½ pounds.
The way they said it was found out, was a Colt player who kept the ball handed it to one of the trainers and they are the one that noticed something was off
Common, 11 out of 12 and the one that wasn't deflated was the one the kicker used?! And none of the refs picked up on it?
And all of them were off exactly 2# each (minus the kickers ball)
This isn't the first time Patriots were caught doing something underhanded
Just wonder if they'll actually pin charges on them or just say "we could not find anything conclusive" so they can go to the Superbowl
This is picking up and building momentum by the look of it. The denials by the Patriot's QB and Coach have former players speaking up now and they aren't mincing words for what they think about it. I imagine many held their tongue to give the team a chance to do the right thing, but they have a point at this stage. It IS the integrity of the game, and merely a game or not? I know people, as many here likely do, who treat football with more passion and seriousness than many things in life a non-sports person would easily place far above it.
This isn't ISIS, as the QB said. No...It's more important than all that, to some.
Former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis added, “I’m so disappointed because I thought this was a perfect opportunity for Tom Brady to go and say, ‘You know what? I made a mistake. I blew it. It’s on me. I’ll take the blame here, and this will go away.’ He didn’t do that … I’m disappointed in you, Tom Brady.”
Fellow ESPN analyst Brian Dawkins said it was “unbelievable” for Brady not to be aware when he touched the balls every play, while Hall of Famer Troy Aikman agreed that the balls would not be altered unless Brady had instructed an equipment manager to do so.
“It’s obvious that Tom Brady had something to do with this,” Aikman told a Dallas radio station — before either of Brady’s or Belichick’s denials. “For the balls to be deflated, that doesn’t happen unless the quarterback wants that to happen, I can assure you of that. Now the question becomes: Did Bill Belichick know about it?”
Now this is the New York Post, and I generally think of them as best used for potty training new puppies. However, they are quoting in clear enough ways to seem clear in context and what they are reporting is pretty consistent to what has come up to this point, and an event taking on a life of its own.
Sounds like this far from over with the team that had soft balls. (couldn't resist..heh)
Good for that too..They are one team in a whole league and they just got busted red handed and dead bang. Why should they have the right to take a pass and dirty every OTHER team by association in the minds of the public? Its bad enough this article and others already note, as a given, that ball antics DO go on as a regular thing. They just seem to have a mental line between coating a ball or putting it in a dryer for better performance or grip and actually changing air pressure.
I dunno...it *ALL* sounds like forms of cheating to me. I say have the NFL reps handle the ball issue and balls are issued at time of the play they will be USED in by the NFL staff. They may not be totally unbiased either and no one is beyond corruption..but it's a damn sight better than the QB with a score to protect, being the main person with 'trust' on the process. Kinda like having a criminal investigate himself with an innocent verdict. Well..no kidding, eh?
They had a thing on the news this morning where they brought in two high school quarterbacks and had them throw two balls, one inflated normally, the other inflated to the pressure that the Patriots' balls were and then guess which was which. Both correctly identified the under-inflated ball (though, oddly, the receiver they were throwing to got it wrong.) Conclusion reached is that Brady undoubtedly knew that the balls were under-inflated, and the opposing quarterback should have, as well.

I want someone to explain a 38 point advantage by a 1 PSI lower pressure in a football.
If it was so important to maintain this pressure why didn't the referee notice they get the ball after every play?
If the media wants to make such a big deal about this, why didn't they give the same scrutiny to the POTUS for his lies on everything from the health care law to the SOTU speech.
This to me is nothing more than theater to increase viewership on Super Bowl Sunday.
Why is the country talking about this or Glosel the milk bathing cereal eater. What a colossal waste.

In that clip they showed of the receiver missing the catch, the ball wasn't even touched it bounced off of his helmet. lol That 1 PSI affects your vision as well.
As I've been following this, no one should have had cause to suspect a ball problem after the game started. I'm not a sports guy, but I've read explanations of how the balls are inspected and verified as proper by officials before the game begins, and then absolutely nobody is supposed to do anything but put them into play after that moment. Apparently, it was after that inspection and 'seal' of all being well that this deflation would have happened.
Also, personally? I'm not sure if the degree of advantage or even winning by the tactic should matter? Cheating is cheating and the word seems to be that a softer ball made gripping and throwing more friendly to the QB. Apparently it also took off range, but if plays were planned with that factor accounted for? It seems it would tilt the balance a hair to the QB's favor.
Still...even if they lost? I think my business course said it best. We live in a "post-trust" era where no one trusts each other or much of anything else. Its the little things accumulating that I believe causes that shift over a large group like it has. Little signs of no one doing anything right, anywhere...or so it sure seems by how events are presented.
So...should a cheating situation be overlooked? Did Armstrong really win his bike races by blood doping..or did it just give a hair's edge he then used for all it was worth, to cite another recent example? Who even cares about a football or men racing bicycles? ...except folks do care, when sports are their thing, and it seems to me? So many from sports ARE the role models of our children (like it or not..and I sure don't), seeing them walk from a blatant sportsmanship violation or ethics issue seems to just compound the wrong?
Lets just say lowering football pressure 1 PSI is much different than performance enhancing drugs. This would be a better comparison if Armstrong would have lowered his tire pressure 1 psi for a better ride without the drugs.
Should baseball records stand after drugs hell no add that asterisk for the drug user tag.
But I don't think extra pine tar on a bat should disqualify you from a home run record. It doesn't help your eyesight, upper body strength, your ability to transfer weight through your hips, or any of the mechanics required to make you a great hitter. Anymore than 1 PSI makes you a better quarterback, by throwing the ball farther, more accurately, think quicker while a 300 lb monster approaches with a I want to kill you smile, or enhance your ability to read the offense. Brady is just a gifted athlete as Hank Aaron was a gifted athlete and hitter. Hank did it without drugs and was truly remarkable.
You also have to love what one of the players for the Colts said in an interview. "They would have beat us throwing soap balls"
Was what he did against the rules? Yes did it give him a distinct advantage to win? Hardly, this would have been more for his comfort not to gain advantage. Like a little extra pine tar to hang on, or lowering tire pressure for a smoother ride.
Now if you want to talk about cheating lets talk Nascar....

I guess we look at this very differently, which is fine. Agreement can't be had everywhere. I don't look at the details or specific questions you consider though. I'm just looking at two things, and outcome from it is totally irrelevant. Did someone alter equipment outside regs and was it their intent to do that?
A guy could change it so he inadvertently loses, and I'd simply find it funny...while still wanting to see something done about the intent.
It's corny..I know..but it comes down to one word in my mind, anyway. Integrity. Was it there, or not? Whether the action was smart, or even worked? It doesn't change the integrity being violated and that is all a penalty should be about anyway. Should a cheater get it worse, to look at the flip side, if they succeed enormously with it? Same issue at the heart. They had no integrity, and no character. How they proved it isn't the critical part.
Why is the country talking about this or Glosel the milk bathing cereal eater. What a colossal waste.
Well now that you brought Glosel up, the reason many of the MSM are all over this is because she, with her green lips and milk baths, scored an interview with the President while legit networks have been turned down time and again....LOL
Turns out she's the hottest YT sensation out there (yikes) with over 1 million viewers
Looks like Obama takes his interviews as seriously as his Foreign affairs
I don't find the idea of integrity corny at all my friend it is a quality missing in the world today. We have such piss poor examples of integrity today in the leaders of the world it's hard to explain to your kids having sex in the oval office isn't ok despite what the media, and liberal/progressive politicians say. I have no idea of how difficult it must be to raise kids in todays world. The sheer volume of conflicting messages they get is horrendous. I would be beside myself to have my child tell me the president lies why can't I when they get caught. As far as sports figures setting examples there is a slight difference a parent has control over, because they can participate as a child in the same sport and realize first hand the disadvantages of cheating while experiencing the excitement of winning through hard work.
While I completely agree with your view this lacks integrity, the whole interview reminded me of the way in which a politician conducts an interview. All you would have to do is change the faces. What we really need to do as a society is quit giving credence to sports players like they are something special, and make every player, politician, person in power, and law enforcement, hold to the integrity of which you speak. Until then as a dad and parent you have one hell of a job, I am glad I don't have to do it in this day and age.
All we can ever do as a parent I think is set that example, while being honest even when it is something they don't want to hear. The truth is a funny thing, while few want to hear it, so long as you always tell it, they will always come to you for the answer. Because anyone with a conscious to do the right thing will always know they can get the real truth from you even if its not what they want to hear.
As far as the integrity of professional football, start with concept of a multi billion dollar industry headed by the NFL a "Not for Profit" corporation. hmmm...
I do appreciate our conversations about the crazy things in this world. You are an incredible wealth of info for a 30 something. No small feat.
