To tell you the truth, I just Drag my cursor over the post and Height it if I can't see it. I'll see what can do about the background colors I'm still learning.
I have found an acceptable solution to the bright background colors....I wear my sun glasses! Don't laugh; it works. My eyes just don't do well with bright lights anymore, but where there's a will, there's a way.

I 'hear' you. At first at TOS, I was annoyed with the dark grey background. But I quickly realized that the research was right about that. My eyes were much less tired and troubled reading light characters on a dark background than otherwise. And at my age--eye care is a critical issue! LOL.
Besides, TO ME, the dark blue background is quite soothing.

I have discovered that bright backgrounds and low letter contrast can trigger some pretty violent headaches- something I used to rarely get- so I have to limit the time I spend reading. That means only being able to read one or two posts before the eyeballs start aching, and then I have to go. Old age brings SO many challenges!

INDEED. Tell me about it! LOL. Add to that, my screen is about 3-4' from my eyes . . . the really best, most comfortable position for it in relationship to my recliner. LOL.
But the dark background and lighter letters are a real help to my aging eyes . . . and helping avoid eye strain and related headaches is an important thing at our ages.
