Holy Cow! That was serious! My colonoscopy was a pleasant walk in the park in comparison and obviously a necessary procedure to prevent that kind of thing. So glad you on on the road to recovery. Best wishes for a healthy life Glencairn.
Michigan Swamp Buck, LOL! A colonoscopy and endoscopy were the very first things that I had done and they were definitely my least favorite until the surgery. I had all kinds of tracers and contrasts shot into me and had to drink the barium contrast and none of it came close to how unpleasant the colonoscopy prep was.
Ugh! I have to call the doctor tomorrow because last night while I was sleeping I was woken up by a stinging in the incision and when I checked it this morning it looks like a stitch is coming out of the incision. They used the dissolving "thread" for the stitches, but this is like a hard sharp plastic feeling bit poking through and I'm worried about it damaging the healing. I'm so over this recovering bit, it needs to just be done already.
So, an unexpected trip to the doctor's office when my incision started bleeding and to look at the stitch. We get there and he looks at the incision and said that the bleeding is probably because I stretched too far and tore the heal a little bit, but that it looked good otherwise and complimented Quin some more about how awesome she is with helping on the packing and bandaging. Quin was smiling so big for hours after that. Doc looked at the spot that the stitch was coming through and at that moment, it wasn't, but said that it didn't look like it was hurting the incision and to just be careful with it. Got some other little instructions and set another follow up for 2 weeks with instructions to call if anything else comes up and needs to be checked out before that.
I was not expecting recovery to be this frustrating, but I am incredibly thankful for Russ and Quin's help. I couldn't do it without them.
I'm so sorry you had to go through all that! But glad that it looks like they may have found the root of your problem and got it fixed.
I know how hard the "on the mend" stage is. But it will be so worth it! Hopefully not to much longer, and sounds like you have a wonderful support group.

I'm glad to see you are getting better without getting bitter glencairn. We can't let you escape from this world just yet. Having a life sentence means you have to have a long life sentence, no early paroles allowed.
chiefsmom , I am definitely not appreciating the on the mend part of all of this, but I do have amazing support from hubby and the kid. They have gone above and beyond so much without complaint (at least within ear shot) and helped with all of the little things that I can't do for myself right now. Their emotional support has been even more incredible. I'm still not able to do much for myself and it leaves me feeling entirely useless and frustrated at putting them in the position to have to help me and they have been amazing about it. The rest of my family has been pretty awesome, too. I have bot my parents and hubby's parents as well as siblings call every day or so to check on me and just chat about how I'm doing and I appreciate that so much!
It is frustrating physically, but the support system that I have has made it so much better than it could have been.
rickymouse, Thanks! I'm not getting bitter and I know that as the recovery progresses things will get much easier. My family has the most to do with being able to keep a good mindset through all of this. I have a moment once in a while here and there (usually during the day while I am here by myself), but for the most part, it has been pretty good so far.

Russ won tickets to the county fair that is the next county over from us and it is (or at one point was) the biggest county fair in the state. I have gone there just about every single year since I was born (my parents used to have a booth there and my siblings and I helped out there as kids) and we've been taking Quin since she was little, too. With my hospital stay and all of the doctors visits and medical bills, we didn't think that we were going to be able to go this year and then Russ won 4 tickets on a call in contest on a local radio program. Since there are just the three of us, and Quin's boyfriend is away at college, we told her she could invite one of her school friends to go with.
We got there and shortly thereafter the girls took off and wandered around on their own and looked for some of their friends who were there showing their animals in the ag barns. A few minutes after that we ran into Russ' best friend from highschool. They have stayed close, but don't see each other as often as they would like, so it was really great to run into him by chance. We wandered around the fair together for the rest of the afternoon and after he left, Russ and I walked around just by ourselves. It was a wonderful day!
We really needed this day out to kind of unwind from the stress of having been in the hospital and recovery. Russ found a cheap-ish wheelchair on craigslist and decided to get it just in case I needed it and thought we should bring it with us today. I'm glad that he thought of doing that because I was okay walking for a while, but tired out pretty fast and ended up alternating between walking and riding in the chair. I'm dreading how I will feel tomorrow, but so glad that we got to enjoy this day out having fun!
Glencairn , I love county fairs! I used to enter them- I am adicted to winning ribbons! ( I'm shallow like that. ) I haven't gone in many years now, but I have some very fond memories!
I'm glad Russ won some tickets and you were able to go. Doing things you enjoy is one of the best medicines in the world!

I used to enter stuff back when I was a kid quite a bit. Two ribbons that I was so proud of were for a photography entry one year and another year for a latch hook picture that I made. My mom got a first place ribbon that same year for a latch hook picture that she made, too. Hers was far more elaborate and really beautiful and watching her making it was why I asked her to teach me how to do it and why I entered mine in the kids entry category. I haven't done that for years, but Quin is friends with two sisters who are the nicest girls (and up until just a year or so ago were also homeschool kids like I was) and they were the girls that had animals that they were showing that Quin and her friend who went with us were so eager to find yesterday. Both of the sisters had entries in the clothing categories and had gotten ribbons - some first and some seconds - and were telling us that if we got a chance that Russ and I should go check their entries out. They had some beautiful stuff and it was fun looking at all of the other entries. Someone even entered a Nobles class renaissance garb dress and cloak and both had ribbons for firsts.
I've loved seeing the pictures of the quilts that you've posted here and if those are what you enter, I don't doubt that you have racked up a lot of ribbons. Your quilts are amazing. If that isn't what you've entered, you definitely should!
We had such a good time and it really was a needed break that we all enjoyed. Though I was hurting pretty badly for a few hours after I woke up. It eventually faded and I know that all of the walking I did was good for me. My doctor has been encouraging me to do a lot of walking when I have been in for check-ups, so he would like that I walked so much yesterday.
I don't know about a lotto ticket, this seems to be the wrong kind of luck! On the plus side, hubby came home from work with a box of "Cold-Eeze" for me to try. They are zinc lozenges that are supposed to help shorten the duration of colds, so I have been trying those and hope that they will help.
