Convience foods have become a big favorite in our hectic lives, but is it worth it?
Papa John's Salad and Produce Recalls Oriental Salad with Sesame Ginger Dressing Due to Possible Listeria monocytogenes Contamination link
It's really sad that manufacturing/packaging plants even need government oversite to prevent contamination problems, but even sadder that people have to become seriously ill or die before FDA oversite does its' job.

It doesn't seem so rare any more. If I'm understanding this correctly, I can eat a pre-packaged salad and die from it two months later?? There is something to be said for Anorexia Nervosa.....
Huge Recall of Frozen Fruits and Vegetables After Listeria Outbreak
An outbreak of a life-threatening illness that has been linked to foods packaged by a processing plant in Washington State has prompted a large-scale voluntary recall of frozen fruits and vegetables marketed under 42 brand names.
The scale of the recall reflects the severity of the outbreak of the illness, listeria, and of concerns about how the contaminated food might have “trickled down” into other products, said Brittany Behm, a spokeswoman for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The processing plant, CRF Frozen Foods in Pasco, Wash., has voluntarily recalled more than 350 frozen foods — including carrots, onions, peaches and strawberries — that were sold in all 50 states and Canada. The recall began on April 23, with 11 frozen vegetables, but was significantly expanded on May 2,2016.

Listeria is a genus of bacteria that up to 1992 contained 10 known species,[1][2] each containing two subspecies. As of 2014 another five species were identified. It is usually the causative agent of the relatively rare bacterial disease listeriosis, a serious infection caused by eating food contaminated with the bacteria. The disease affects pregnant women, newborns, adults with weakened immune systems, and the elderly.
Listeriosis is a serious disease for humans; the overt form of the disease has a case-fatality rate of about 20%. The two main clinical manifestations are sepsis and meningitis. Meningitis is often complicated by encephalitis, when it is known as meningoencephalitis, a pathology that is unusual for bacterial infections. L. ivanovii is a pathogen of mammals, specifically ruminants, and has rarely caused listeriosis in humans.[5] The incubation period can vary between 3 to 70 days
