I always considered atheism a religion unto itself as any other. If atheist claim that there is no God because there is no proof, then by the same criteria atheism should be considered a religion because they cannot offer proof there isn't. I also consider IMO agnostics are lazy because they won't do the research to form an opinion making a decision to God or no God. Archeology is proving with several sites in the Middle East that biblical stories were real the places and events actually took place. If my memory serves (sometimes it doesn't) archeologist have even found King Davids Palace, and several other biblical sites.
Archeology has proven biblical records, as well as several other sites that reference a God/Gods/Beings/Deities of some sort that predate the bible. To say there is a mountain of evidence out there for research would be to say Mount Everest is but a hill. But to sit on the sidelines as an agnostic is lazy, and I am in total agreement with Charles, if you have done the research and decided there is no God that is your opinion to live by and I can respect that.
I don't understand the whole idea as well with blaming the woes of the world on organized religion because of mans indiscretions. The concept of free will places the blame for the failures of man on mans shoulders scumming to desire of the flesh and no one else's. This has nothing to do with organized religion, you can't blame all of baseball for the evil deeds of a single player, to use a sports analogy. The biggest thing I see is, that most take issue with money, you give money to the church and there is something wrong with that. I see nothing wrong with this, if the church miss uses the money, once again it is on those that run the church and not organized religion. More good is done everyday in the US and world wide by organized religion than any other device to help the poor and down trodden.
Man is his own worst enemy, the bible is full of examples of being a better person and avoiding this. It is also full of history, history provable with archeology. I got my start at the ripe old age of 16 when living in California and finding sea shells on Big Bear mountain where the elevation tops at 9000 feet, Noah never ran a ground there but he did leave some animals behind . The real history of the world is a fascinating adventure. You can start as far back as cuneiform tablets with the writings of ancient Sumeria and work forward, or pick up with Egypt and start at biblical archeology.
One of the things I find incredibly interesting is the idea the Nazi's thought biblical artifacts were so important they actually had special service just to look for things likes the spear that pierced the side of Jesus. Today you can't find anything more searched for the the arch of the covenant. The Nazi's weren't stupid they were an evil cult, an evil cult that thought relics from the bible were so important and powerful they formed the Ahnenerbe organization to search such relics out. I find it interesting their belief system is that of the cult Supremacy of the Aryan Race but yet they thought the power of biblical relics so important they sent people out looking for them. They had a full grasp of good versus evil and chose evil over good.
