The woman I get my eggs from has smaller hens, they lay eggs between the medium and large size. The yolk is over two thirds of the content of the egg. They are fertile eggs, they run around the yard most days eating bugs but all go in the coop/fenced area for the nights. They come when she calls them, they all have names.
She only was charging two bucks and wouldn't take more but I told her I was giving her three from now on about a month and a half ago. I know it costs her at least two bucks a dozen to get the eggs, she feeds quite a few roosters and also hatches some eggs for the young. Some of the hens are pretty old and are retired, they are fed too. They are her friends, she won't eat her friends. She won't get rid of them just because they quit laying. Every chicken is still laying, the oldest is over seven. But when they get old they do not lay very often.
