So.. erratic periods, moody as all get out.. I am talking mooody... I'm not myself..
so what do I do? How do I know if this is meopause (other than the constant mood swings and occasionally super hot and the erratic periods when you could set a clock by them in the past)
What do I do for the mood swings and general crappiness if it is?
PS. I cannot go to the doc or anything... just want to know if we can be sure, and what can possibly be taken over the counter for it..
My wife started using lemon balm, she says that helps.
She also wraps her feet in damp towels to cool her feet and weeps a lot.
(I'm writing this as she's speaking.)
Thanks Dirk and Mrs Dirk! :) Thank you for the lemon balm advice!
Ask her if it feels quite a bit like being pregnant...? To be honest if I didn't know for a fact I wasn't pregnant, I would swear I was... is it the same for her? Thing is, I have never heard anyone say that going through menopause is like pregnancy on steroids... but that is the way it feels to me...
Yet I am not pregnant.. it is way way something else.. I threatened to find a family who would put up with the dog day before yesterday.. and honestly... I just cannot get worse!
I took a job where I'm in and out of freezers and coolers all day- that helps with the hot flashes at least but does nothing for the fatigue and emotional roller coaster ride. And "Aunt Rosie" seems to come and go as she pleases- I haven't seen her in two months! I can't take hormones so I'm just roughing it. I figure it has to end eventually!

I tried the wild yam cream and ginseng with no result but I'm willing to give the black cohosh a try since I gave the others a day in court. Mystic Wanderer,

littled16, yeah, I've heard lots of people say black cohosh works pretty well.
I didn't have all the symptoms with menopause that most women do; I never had to take anything. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
lol... meanie! hahaha
For me I am feeling depressed almost all the time until I feel like I am just going to explode.. and when I do I don't come off as depressed, its just pissed off.. lol.. (hence threatening the dog with a new family - not that she believed me or anything!)
Where your article said "crave alcoholic beverages" yeah.. I have been wanting alcohol lately, and I am NOT a drinker, at all. yet suddenly a drink of any sort just plain sounds lovely!
I have Ginseng here for other reasons, but I will use some of that and see if it is a help, then I will try that lemon balm tea as well, then just start going down the list of things to try!
Lots of info on soy; researcher claim to have gotten the best/most results with soy. Your symptoms ALL sound typical, from my experience. Doc said HRT was a temporary support thing, and I had a terrible alergic reaction to them. She also said hot falshes could last 20 years for some women, or even longer. I'm one of those women. They're not longer the beat-red 5,000 degree heat ones I had in the beginning or a frequent. I can go more than 10 minutes without having one now!
What works for one may not work for another. I spent many hours on the net looking for relief. There is advice on diet and herbs that can help with the mood swings too. The really bad moods from out of nowhere lasted about 6 months. They'd come out of the blue, but once I knew what was going on I'd just refrain from talking til I felt a little more positive.
Just know, it gets better. Your 'personal summer' may be an asset this winter!

I am the lucky one ! Or maybe I just don't notice other than the break from the monthly "red tide" LOL !
