Since I have been brought to Hernando's for not only my expertise in fine cigars and impeccable musical taste, but also my political leanings, I'd like to ask the fine patrons to consider and comment on this:
It is no secret that the Republicans have been very vocal about voter/election fraud, and are pushing for voter ID laws wherever they can. We've also seen the GOP blogosphere blow up with accusations of fraud and/or tampering with machines, as we have seen with the Republican blogger's viral video that can be seen here:
Let's remember that the ID issue is not the topic here.
Now that the election is over, and the Republicans have won, we are not hearing any outrage over suspected fraud whatsoever.
Is it possible that the entire outrage machine that was put in to full force before the election was just to prime the GOP and get them ready to go full-on outrage mode about fraud IF they happened to lose the election?
Can we be honest and say that if they had lost, this issue would be on the tips of everyone's tongues and sprayed across conservative talk radio and TV?
But they won....nary a peep.
I believe that is exactly what has taken place. What say you Hernandos?
Out here in the middle of nowhere, we don't have those newfangled machines. I voted by filling in dots on a piece of paper and have faith that the scanner is on the up-and-up, and that if there is a claim of fraud, a human being can go count the ballots.

Same for Missouri, or at least my section of it. Paper ballots with a 'fill in the arrow' (which actually points RIGHT AT the answer you want...not like some other confusing jumbles with that system) and that goes into a scanner with state wide totals being kept. Indeed....if it all goes south, we can crack open the boxes and count ballots to voters having signed in and verify the basic count..then get to hand tabulating each individual set of votes.
I think it's patently insane where that isn't done...or it's invitation to fraud.
I also look at it this way. I'm a generally honest person and I do things the right way because it matters to me, not so much how others feel. Despite that... *I* can very easily see ways I could vote 5 or even 10 times in the single day, across my own city...if I were that type of person.
If I can come up with it just sitting here and idly thinking? Our system invites fraud and those that spend REAL time to actually go and do it rarely ever get caught, I'd suspect. (The number of cases is still rather startling over the years tho).
Paper and old fashioned in-person voting ought to be the ONLY system until a replacement is equally solid...not by convenience and then 'figure it out as they go'.
Is it changing Obama to Romney or Romney to Obama? If you look at the whole video, they found and apparently documented cases of both during that election. People and their love affair with electronic gizmos will be the death of us all. It's just not secure or reliable enough for some things yet, IMO. (Neither are the people programming them..and perhaps that is the problem in the end)
...and isn't that sad too? We can support life itself in a dozen artificial ways....but we can't produce reliable, functional and accurate systems to vote with. (sigh)
