Okay folks, how did it go out there? For those who didn't' vote early and went out to do their thing today..what did you see? Hear? Experience? Anything out of the ordinary?
For my part, I split between classes this morning and got to the Baptist Church they set aside for voting about 9:30. No lines. No wait. No problems. Just a stack of ballots on the table, a sign-in tablet to confirm who I was and sign my name (Missouri doesn't play like some states are these days about voting being a right to toss around lightly). Nothing much to vote on, to be honest. We always have the whole local set of Judges to vote a simple 'Yes' or 'No' for retention into the future. We can't pick them, but we can help retire them. I vote no on retention across the board, every time anyway. (I hope a Judge I have in some future matter doesn't read a post about that to know I wrote it...err..heh).
We had one Congressman (Billy Long) to decide on keeping or dumping ..and again, true to my word, party isn't what this is about. Billy Long is a Republican. He's also a slimy, corrupt weasel. I voted for the Democrat...and really don't know much about him. However, the Dems wouldn't be backing someone with tons of issues in this area, and to an electorate that runs as red as Washington Apples for normal politics. In other words....little can be worse than what we have in Long, and the Dem is very unlikely to hit THAT low. So... My vote he got. :)
Aside from that? Just Amendments to vote on. The most critical of those..(and WHY voting MATTERS) is one to decide if Missouri will add the amendment which requires teachers take and pass the tests to demonstrate basic proficiency in what they teach. (You'd be surprised how badly needed this is...or maybe you wouldn't..sadly). I voted yes, naturally. If they fail? They may seek work elsewhere...as it should be. Our kids deserve no less.
No demonstrations though. No drama...and we still use a 100% old fashioned paper ballot. It IS fed through a digital counter, and has been for a few elections now. However, the big oversized paper copies still exist and if need be, could still be taken out of lock boxes for manual count in whatever situation required it. That is the least I think every state should have. 100% real, physical paper backup of every ballot and vote cast.
So... Anyone see fraud or other dirty deeds out there?
