Super massive Star formation and a possible explanation

I can't access the article, but a couple of general observations:

These stars will be very short lived. One can calculate the life expectancy of a star based upon it's mass alone. paradoxically, larger stars live shorter lives, despite the fact that they have more mass. they burn that mass up at a much faster rate, and so burn out quicker. Think 8 cylinder SUV vs 1 cylinder moped.

They will probably eventually merge in a spectacular collision as their orbits decay and the gravitational force attracting them together overcomes the centripedal force flinging them apart.

No worries about the shock waves. Shock waves need a medium to propagate through - air, water, etc. The interstellar medium is not "thick" enough for them to throw a shock wave of any import all the way to here, 13k light years away.

Might be a spectacular burst of radiation, though. Probably X-rays.
