In recent times, I've tended to move away from the First Person Shooter genre that really started my serious online gaming with the original release of Half Life, so long ago now (Who doesn't recall hiding in the crawl space of that side room in the original maps..with a handful of hungry little snarks...to throw down into unsuspecting players and enjoy the result? heh)
Maybe its age, or maybe just realizing the futility of fighting for the right to spawn right back where I started. Err... Yeah.. something about definitions of insanity I think..but I digress. :)
I've come to embrace a new Genre and a new type of gaming. Sandbox World Building! It's fun stuff too!
7 Days To Die ranks as one of my longer term favorites (Although if they don't move with new updates soon..they'll become a former favorite, in a hurry too). I don't play that or others for the 'zombie' or conflict aspect. After enough playing that way, what is really new or different about the same basic 3-D models, doing the same basic thing, across the same basic wireframe landscape for the same reasons? Change the textures, skins and graphics? Half Life and a modern Shooter aren't that different, or interesting, because of it. However...freedom to build anything, limited in compexity by only your imagination? Hey now.... THAT, I've learned to get into!
That brings me to my latest discovery, and it takes a good deal of what 7 Days hasn't matured in developing yet, or just takes a detail-oriented approach that previous ones tend to fail with. The little things...make BIG differences. (The way a laid block melds INTO and not backs UP to adjoining walls or structural features, for instance....).
Anyway.. I spent a few MUCH needed hours last night away from school work, declassified data piles and other things I am usually spending all my time on..to just PLAY a bit. (All work and no play makes Jack a dull....err...nvm)
Here is what my latest discovery looks like:
Just a typical day in the meadows, as I layout and start breaking ground at Bunny Estates. :)
Where some folks just saw an ugly cliff face? I saw potential! Of course, the cavern is just a storage and crafting area at the moment, and not intended to represent the final living space.
I splurged a bit tho..and went with the Sandstone floors in my work area. :)
I think I chose pretty well tho, and the view is spectacular. By the time Bunny Estates is open with a model home to tour, it should have access to these cliffs above by stairway and ramp (You know, for accessibility laws and all).
Ahh..That shot even shows tonight's dinner. A cow that can't keep outta camp, I'm going to turn it into burger and jerky for my grill and smoker (yeah, they include a patio type grill, a campfire grill and a big smoker/cooker for different ways of preparing the wildlife that wanders the area. )
Of course, the hunting of Rabbit is a Capital Offense and considered a more serious crime than homicide...for those who might need reminded.
The game is called Rising World and I found it on Steam but This Link goes to their website directly. It is what Steam calls an "Early Access" game or one on sale while still in the middle of the development phase. It makes for a bit cheaper game under that system (when it isn't abused) and the game there will likely improve in major ways before being called 'done'.
Happy Gaming!
