That light was there again this morning, but appeared much smaller than it did Friday morning. Maybe whatever it is, it's moving away.  Still don't know what it is.  I took some pictures, but no time to post right now.  I'll have to do this tomorrow because I'm going in to work early today and need to hit the sack now so I can get up in about 6 hours.

Mystic.. I know this may be kinda redunant to mention, as you likely thought of this...

However..rather than stand on the ground looking up, like primitive cave people, and saying 'oogah oogah' at the mysterious lights in the sky.....?

Do you have Stellarium or considered getting it? If not, it's a free "Google Earth" for the known universe, basically.

If it exists, and is known to have been documented outside the atmosphere? Stellarium most likely has it, is maintaining track on it, and you can identify whatever you're seeing in real time with a laptop or smart phone. 

Enter the bearing and elevation from your point of observation and Stellarium ought to kick back what exists on that heading and angle to be seen. From Venus to STEREO A and B or Apophis, for that matter. Stellarium tracks it all, and its all 100% free.

That should solve your boggle and kinda takes the fun out of 'oogah oogah!' but then...the scientific approach often does. 

@wrabbit2000, Yes, I was going to add it a while back, but it costs $2.49 for the app.  I've been waiting until I can get to a store to buy a Visa card because I don't want to use my bank card on online purchases.  But, this is on my list of things to do.

I have the Google Sky Map on my phone so I used it this morning and pointed it in the direction of that light.  This is what came up:



Would Spica be even brighter in the morning sky than the morning star?   I don't think so.     Humm...  I don't know what that light is. 

Sounds like interesting app ....... will pop over to usual pirate erm ..... mean other source of app sites to download and see how works ( not sure if will work for me as deleted all google stuff ) .......

If paying for someone else to adapt it for the mobile App is worth it..then pay it..but know that is a 100% open source and free program that isn't supposed to have a price tag, anywhere, beyond consideration for value added, and that is debatable..depending on who you ask (Like adapting to a new platform, perhaps).

Anyway... The desktop version is much more impressive than the free android tablet one I had last year. You need 3 pieces of data to identify anything you are seeing in the sky, if you don't have the device with you in the yard or wherever you are standing to look..and it IS free for all of this.

#1. You need the time. The precise time, as close as humanly possible, and know your time zone to GMT conversion. You'll need it to have a time worth using for reference.

#2. Compass bearing. You need your bearing from observation to object. That is your 0 degrees for true north, 180 degrees for true south..and so on. Stellarium takes your physical location into account, automatically, to calculate from there.

#3. Elevation. You need angle from horizon to the object you are observing, and again, Stellarium (and others) calculate as needed for your actual location for observation to make up for anything.

With those 3 pieces of data, you should have an answer within a few seconds for what was in that piece of sky, at the precise moment....and whether it was a satellite, craft, or celestial body.
