I am surprised you don't recall this as it happened. I sure do, and I still have folders full of bookmarks from previous looks at this issue.
I'll admit, it can be a challenge to find the references to how the Dems locked the Republicans out of the negotiations, since the results are quite cluttered by stories out of that same period where Dems changed the physical locks on the committee room door in order to halt the investigation into the Countywide deals Dodd and others got. There was a great deal of dirty business going on back then and to describe the house (especially) leadership as gloating would be an understatement. (Elections have consequences, as Pelosi proudly stated in '09).
Now to think the Republicans were just stirring up trouble would be to totally ignore how unpopular that bums rush into a full progressive reform of 1/5th of the economy was. Now it's going badly and rather consistently I might add, for every stage of implementation as well as the infrastructure itself. Even NBC had to acknowledge that point back then.
Which is how that worked out, as I recall. Rather pig headed of them and not as Democrats. As individuals. Reid is a senile old oaf the nation should be outraged to see ...or simply has NO understanding OF...the position of potential power that man has. Same with Boehner for that matter since he was the newly demoted Minority leader and could seemingly do little more than whine like a baby in a wet diaper. Certainly nothing effective in even a passing way was done, and that makes it a % of his baby as well as Pelosi's.

Now I honestly couldn't find source to what I distinctly recall watching in 2009, snarkily declaring they'd been locked out of hearings on the PPACA, specifically. Ones like this were why, and this did happen with everyone and their little news outlet on the corner talking about it at the time.

It's got nothing to do with being a democrat or republican in the end, though. It's all about these being some of the most petty, ineffective and corrupt individuals this nation has had the displeasure of having to endure in a long time. It comes at a time the world is moving toward war, and the absolute WORST moment for our internal leadership to be such weasels, IMO.

WASHINGTON — House and Senate Democrats intend to bypass traditional procedures when they negotiate a final compromise on health care legislation, officials said Monday, a move that will exclude Republican lawmakers and reduce their ability to delay or force politically troubling votes in both houses.

Democratic aides said the final compromise talks would essentially be a three-way negotiation involving top Democrats in the House and Senate and the White House, a structure that gives unusual latitude to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California.

Bypassing a formal conference committee enables Democrats to omit time-consuming procedural steps in the Senate and prevents Republicans from trying to delay the final negotiations.
